work in progress: seeley beigectomy

Street view before and after renovation

When longtime neighbors purchased this house a couple of blocks away from where they were previously living, they saw opportunity beneath the original beige vinyl siding and underutilized yard. With a shared appreciation for clean, minimal design, the clients approached 34-TEN to modernize the prairie-style farmhouse while strengthening its connection to light and landscape.

The renovation focuses primarily on the exterior and outdoor living. New charcoal-gray siding, carefully rebalanced street-facing windows, and subtle façade adjustments bring new clarity and a sense of proportion. The rear yard and deck were reimagined as a functional entertaining space with integrated outdoor entertaining areas, concrete planters, and a new pergola with a slatted privacy screen. The new large format slider and rear deck graciously transitions to grade to create a more natural indoor-outdoor flow.

Interior updates include a new mudroom and improved access from the kitchen to backyard through a large-format sliding glass door, reinforcing daily practicality for the family. The result is a restrained, light-filled home that feels both contemporary and rooted — proof that thoughtful exterior interventions can meaningfully reshape how a house functions.
